Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the yellow lentils under cold water.
  2. In a pot, heat the oil and add cumin seeds.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add tomatoes, green chilies, and turmeric powder. Cook until tomatoes soften.
  5. Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer until lentils are soft, about 20 minutes.
  7. Add salt to taste and mix well.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
