- 4 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
- A pinch of ground ginger or allspice (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine diced pears, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- In a large bowl, mix rolled oats, flour, granulated sugar, melted butter, and salt to create the crumble topping.
- Press half of the crumble mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, then spread the pear filling over it.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top of the pears.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the bars cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares.
