Description

Red lentil dahl is a flavorful and nutritious dish made with red lentils, spices, and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 can coconut milk (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water.
  2. In a pot, heat oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until softened.
  4. Add turmeric, cumin, coriander, and salt. Stir for 1 minute.
  5. Add rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes until lentils are soft.
  7. If using, stir in coconut milk and heat through.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
