A festive cake inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- Black fondant for decorations
- White fondant for decorations
- Food coloring (black, purple, green)
- Buttercream frosting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water until well combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Once cooled, frost with buttercream and decorate with fondant.
- Use food coloring to add details.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Can be made a day in advance.
- Use a cake leveler for even layers.
