Description
Mujadara is a traditional Middle Eastern dish made with lentils and rice, topped with caramelized onions.
Ingredients

- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup rice
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 4 cups water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils and soak for 30 minutes.
- In a pot, heat olive oil and add sliced onions. Cook until caramelized.
- Remove half of the onions for topping.
- Add lentils and water to the pot with remaining onions. Bring to a boil.
- Add rice, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Cover and simmer for 20 minutes until rice and lentils are cooked.
- Fluff with a fork and serve topped with caramelized onions.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add garlic to the onions while cooking.
- You can use vegetable broth instead of water.
- Serve with yogurt or salad for a complete meal.
