Description

German potato dumplings are soft, fluffy balls made from potatoes. They are a perfect side dish for meat or served with sauces.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of potatoes
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of butter

Instructions

  1. Peel and boil the potatoes until soft.
  2. Drain and mash the potatoes until smooth.
  3. Let the mashed potatoes cool slightly.
  4. Add flour, egg, and salt to the potatoes and mix until combined.
  5. Form the mixture into balls.
  6. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
  7. Drop the dumplings into the boiling water.
  8. Once they float to the surface, cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Remove the dumplings and let them drain.

Notes

  • Use starchy potatoes for better texture.
  • Serve with gravy or sautéed onions.
  • Store leftover dumplings in the refrigerator.
