Description

A classic Southern sandwich featuring crispy fried green tomatoes, bacon, lettuce, and tomato.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 2 medium green tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup lettuce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  2. Soak tomato slices in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dredge tomato slices in the cornmeal mixture.
  5. Fry in hot oil until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Toast bread slices.
  7. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
  8. Layer bacon, fried tomatoes, and lettuce on one slice. Top with another slice of bread.
  9. Cut sandwich in half and serve.

Notes

  • Use firm green tomatoes for best results.
  • Adjust seasonings to your taste.
  • Can substitute turkey bacon for a lighter option.
