A savory French onion tart with a rich caramelized onion filling.

- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 large eggs
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil and butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Add onions, sugar, and salt, then cook until soft and caramelized.
- Stir in thyme and cook for another minute.
- In a bowl, whisk together cream and eggs.
- Add caramelized onions to the cream mixture.
- Pour the mixture into the pie crust.
- Sprinkle Gruyère cheese on top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and golden.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Can be made a day ahead and reheated.
- Pair with a light salad for a complete meal.
