Description

This is a simple recipe for homemade white bread that you can make with minimal ingredients.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Add yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add salt and oil to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool before slicing.

Notes

  • Make sure water is warm, not hot, to activate yeast.
