A warm and comforting crock pot French onion soup with rich flavors.
Ingredients

- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook until softened, about 15 minutes.
- Stir in sugar, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Transfer onions to the crock pot.
- Add beef broth and white wine to the crock pot.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
- Before serving, toast baguette slices.
- Serve soup in bowls topped with a slice of baguette and shredded cheese.
- Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- You can use vegetable broth for a vegetarian version.
- Adjust seasonings to your taste.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days.
