Delicious Christmas royal icing cookies perfect for decorating.
Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add egg and vanilla, mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes.
- Place cookies on baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden.
- Cool completely before icing.
- For royal icing, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form, then gradually add powdered sugar.
- Decorate cookies with royal icing as desired.
