Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 4 cups)
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the crust by mixing flour, oats, brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and salt until crumbly.
- Make the apple filling by combining diced apples, chopped pecans, vanilla extract, and half of the caramel sauce.
- If using homemade caramel, combine sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan and stir until thickened.
- Assemble the bars by pressing two-thirds of the crumb mixture into a baking pan, adding the apple filling, and topping with the remaining crumb mixture.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender, then cool and drizzle with remaining caramel sauce.
Notes
- Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
- For vegan, replace butter with a plant-based alternative and ensure caramel sauce is vegan.
