A delightful dessert that combines the sweetness of apples with the rich flavor of caramel, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- Rolled oats: 2 cups
- All-purpose flour: 1 cup
- Brown sugar: 1 cup, packed
- Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (1 stick), melted
- Ground cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
- Apples: 4 medium, peeled, cored, and diced (about 4 cups)
- Caramel sauce: 1 cup (store-bought or homemade)
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
Instructions
- Prepare the apple filling by combining diced apples with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Toss until well coated and set aside.
- Make the crisp topping by mixing rolled oats, all-purpose flour, remaining 3/4 cup of brown sugar, melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt in another bowl until crumbly.
- Assemble the bars by pressing half of the oat mixture into the bottom of a prepared baking dish, spreading the apple mixture over it, drizzling half of the caramel sauce, and topping with the remaining oat mixture.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and apples are tender.
- Let cool for 15 minutes, then drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and allow to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and certified gluten-free oats.
